Wednesday

Reflection

To continue our prayer theme, we are going to share and say the Hail Mary this morning. Light a candle and find somewhere peaceful to sit and be calm. Once you are calm say the Hail Mary with the people around you.

English

Today we are going to try to write the next section of the story. Yesterday we explored this picture.

We thought about what it was being shown in the picture as well as how the characters would have been feeling in this moment and then we predicted what we think the story is to go with the picture. Here are the screen shots of that learning.

We then created a story map for the short section we are going to try and write today. Here is an example story map that Grace kindly sent through to us all.

We are going to use our story maps or the story map that Grace has shared to base our writing on.

Your task is to write the next part of the story. You need to write in the third person (no use of I) you must use the characters names. You are telling what they did in the past tense (lots of use of -ed words). Be descriptive and reative with your writing. Tell the reader just how hard the men are finding this part of the story.

Here is a start to the next section that I have started to write if you are struggling for ideas. You can also go back and read the earlier parts of the story for ideas.

The winter conditions grew worse over the next weeks. Winds so strong that they would knock a man clean from his feet, send boats cartwheeling over the ice and dogs running for their dogloos. After 2 weeks of these conditions and more snow falling every day Shackleton gathered his crew together. He had decided that, having looked at his map, Elephant Island was the their only chance of escape and rescue.

"We must get going as soon as possible, the conditions are worsening every minute and soon the provision will run out!" Shackleton explained ominously to the assemblied men.

Maths

Today we are going to carry  on with our work on multiplication and division. We are exploring multiplying a 3 digit number by a 1 digit number. There is a link to the videos found here https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-4/spring-week-2-number-multiplication-division/

Alongside working through the video content, there is also a work sheet that will expand on multiplying a 3 digit number by a 1 digit number.

Science

Today we are going to gather on zoom to explore changing solids to liquids to gasses and back again. There are 4 different process to turn one state of matter into another:

Freezing - this is the process to turn liquids into solids

Condensing - this is the process to gasses into liquids

Melting- this is the process to turn a solid into a liquid

Evaporation- this is the process to turn a liquid into a gas.

We are going to explore how this can be done with water in the lesson today but if you cant make the lesson there is a great video to watch and explore here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DE3LCPfP8N8

Your task for the week, it does not have to happen today especially the freezing section will take time. I would like you to investigate changing water from one state to another. You can record your investigations however you want to, pictures or vides would be brilliant to show this. You need to turn water from a liquid to both a gas and a solid. If you want a big challenge can you turn gas waterback into a liquid and solid water back into a solid.

The picture below may give you a clue in what to do ;-)
