In Design and Technology children will naturally draw upon their knowledge and understanding of Mathematics, Science, Computing, Art and Design. Where possible we link Design and Technology to the topics that are developed around our Power of Reading books. For example, in Year 1 as part of “The Jolly Postman” topic, children thought about designing a new postbag. Our Design and Technology curriculum is delivered through a progression of skills that start in the Early Years and are built on throughout each year group. Children learn how to develop, plan and communicate their ideas. They investigate how to work with tools, equipment, materials and components to make quality products. We teach children how to evaluate products they have made, and the processes involved. Children are encouraged to become creative problem solvers, both independently and as part of a team.
