Monitoring of Music: Senior Leadership Team

Progression of Skills in Music

Music plays a major part in the life of the school and children participate in a variety of musical activities as part of the curriculum, including singing, percussion bands and guitar playing. The music curriculum gives children opportunities to perform (controlling sounds through singing and playing); compose (Creating and developing ideas); appraise (responding and reviewing); and listen to music (applying knowledge and understanding). Music is taught by a specialist teacher.

All children are given the opportunity to learn to play the ukulele in Year 3 and the guitar in Year 5.

Through their participation in assemblies, Masses, concerts and special community events, children are able to demonstrate their skills to live audiences with growing confidence.

We have a thriving school choir, who contribute to the parish liturgy and travel up to London every year to take part in the Young Voices concert at the O2.

In Year 5 music lessons, we had fun composing using chime bars.
