Hinduism Day
In Elves class we learned about the many different Hindu celebrations that take place. We found out that when a baby is born, families have a special naming ceremony called 'Namkaran'. We found that there are lots of similarities between a Hindu naming ceremony and a baptism - such as saying special prayers, and inviting friends and family to welcome the new baby to their lives. We also found out that some families rely on astrology to help decide the baby's name. We used our birth dates to find out our own star signs and decorated them beautifully. In the afternoon we joined the Pixies in the hall to take part in some Indian dancing and tasting some Indian snacks!
