Daily Reflection: Our focus this week is 'Strength'

As we enter Lent, we need to use our strength to help us through, just as Jesus did when he was in the desert for forty days and nights. Take a moment to listen to the music and think about how you are going to try and be strong during this time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1czuvSCXrUE

"Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength." Isaiah 40:31

Dearest Imps,

I hope that you had a wonderful half term and got to enjoy some time with your family. Our new project is about Africa…..do you know where Africa is? Maybe you could ask your grown up to show you on a map or a globe? It is very far from Folkestone.

Start of the day:

Listen to our good morning song:

Handwriting:

Listen to our crocodile snap song using the following link and get those hands ready:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6kPcQSSsEY&t=6s

Today we are going to have a go at writing the letter r and you can use the following link to help you with writing this letter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knhBaLebVq4  don’t forget you can try this letter using different colours, large pieces of paper etc or writing the letter in the air with ribbon. You can also use your playdough to try and create this letter. Try your best!

Reading:

Find a nice quiet spot that you can do some reading in. Choose a book that you have not looked at for a while. Maybe look through all of the pages first, talking about what you see in each. Then start from the beginning again and see if you can read any of the words. Maybe you recognise some of the tricky words.

English:

Have a look at the front cover of our new book called ‘Handa’s surprise’ and talk about what you see. You will find a picture of the front cover in the resources. The word surprise is in the title……have you ever had a surprise before? How did you feel? Are surprises always good? Can you tell someone about it? What do you think the surprise might be in this book? Draw a picture of what the surprise could be and write the word also, using your sounds to help you. You can either use the template found in the resources to draw the surprise or you can simply draw it on some plain paper.

Maths:

Count from 0-20 in a really quiet voice and then in a loud voice. Count backwards from 20-0, this is often much trickier!!! Look at the number fruits in the resources, can you recognise all of the numbers?

Today we are thinking about creating patterns. Using some fruit drawings (created by you), real fruit or fruit pictures found in the resources, can you create a repeating pattern. Use just two different fruits today. What pattern will you create? If you are drawing your own fruit, you can either draw, colour or paint your patterns. If you are using the fruits in the resources you will need to cut and stick and if you are using real fruit, take a photograph to send to me.

Phonics:

Revise all of your phase 2 sounds and the phase 3 sounds that we have learnt so far (j, v, w and z, x, y, qu, ch, th, sh, ng, ee, igh, oa, oo, ar and ai). Today we are thinking about going over all of the phase 3 sounds we have learnt so far, just to make sure they are secure in our minds. Can you think of any words with these sounds in (the sounds above)? Have a try at writing these words, using your robot arms and sound buttons to help you.

Afternoon activity:

Find out where Africa is using a globe, map etc. Can you draw the shape of Africa, creating your own simple map outline on a large sheet of paper? When you have drawn the outline, add some pictures……. for example, what animals, plants etc might you find in Africa? Send me some pictures of your African maps, I would love to see them.
