English Learning: 

Below you will find two units of work for each week that you are working from home. Here you should find everything you need and within these lessons the skills of reading, GPS and writing are also covered. If you would like to do any extra work please do not forget our homework tab on the Unicorn class page where you will also find English worksheets. Remember to also spend some time each day reading a book of your choice. laugh

 

This work is based on a poetry unit on the 'Highwayman' 

This is an overview for the week's learning: 

Day 1 – Reading a classic narrative poem; sequencing the events.

Day 2 – Study perfect form of past tense and identify different forms. Re-read poem.

Day 3 – Learn about colons, semi-colons and dashed, and use these in sentences. 

Day 4 – Revise use of colons, semi-colons and dashes; practise writing rules which include colons and semi-colons.

Day 5 – Learn how to use hyphens and then sort out ambiguous headlines by correct hyphen use and write a story of a strange event.

This work is based on a poetry unit on the 'The Paradise Garden' 

This is an overview for the week's learning: 

Day 1 Listen to The Paradise Garden. Use thesauruses. Make predictions. Write about the extraordinary illustrations.

Day 2 Listen to the story again. Make character notes. Imagine a special place that you know or would like to know and write about this magical place.

Day 3 – Read non-fiction: an article about alchemy. Listen to another story, The Last Alchemist, by the same author. Compare stories.  

Day 4 – Listen to the story again. Imagine and write a new scene. Read and learn a poem.

Day 5 – Read an autobiography. Make comparisons. Make up a new story.
