STELLA MARIS SCHOOL CLOSURE
As you will have heard on the news last night, the Government has decided that all academies and schools in England will close at the end of the day on Friday 20th March except for the following:
the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services)
Vulnerable children including those who have a social worker and those with educational health and care plans (EHCPs) We are waiting for the Government to publish more information on what these exceptions mean and expect to receive this later today. In the meantime, it would help us if you could let us know if you think your child may fall into one of these categories. We will be in touch again as soon as we are sure who this does apply to.
For those children who must remain at home: work will be set for them by their class teacher. As from Monday, you will find this work on the academy website in the usual place – Children – Homework – Classes. At the bottom of the homework page you will find lots of extra activities to enjoy with your children. Please let us know if you require support with accessing the work set.
The Government has been clear that all testing will be cancelled but we await to hear how children will be graded – this information is due tomorrow.
If your child usually receives Free School Meals we will also be in touch with more information for you.
Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. We will re-open fully as soon as we can and will let you know via the Stella Maris APP.
We understand that this is a very challenging situation for everyone, and we will do everything that we can to support you as Stella Maris families and indeed the wider community. We are keeping up-to-date with all Government announcements and will keep you informed as fully as we can.
Look after each other and pray that this difficult situation will pass, having brought our community closer together.
