Monday Home Learning – Pixies Class

Morning Pixies, 

We hope that you have had a lovely weekend. We are now in our last week of our walking challenge, so this is a really important week. We are so proud of everyone that has managed to help, you really are making a difference!

 

English:

Reading

-Read a chosen book for ten today in a quiet space. 

-Can you read the tricky words list found in the resources and do you know what each one means?

-Can you spell the tricky words too? 

Writing

-Use the instructions below to create your very own origami book. You will be using this throughout the week, you will be writing your own book…. making links with our new book ‘The Snail and the Whale.’

-Create a front cover for your origami book. Your front cover needs to include the snail and the whale from our book ‘The Snail and the Whale’ and also things that the snail might see when it is on its travels.

-Look at and read the page where the snail visits the ice bergs and far away lands. If you don’t have the book at home, this page can be found in the resources. Talk about what the snail sees. Can you describe the icebergs etc? 

-On the first page of your book, write some sentences about the first destination (the icebergs and the faraway lands), describing what the Snail sees. You can also draw some small pictures. 

 

Phonics:

-Think about the sound ‘ea’ and listen to the sound using the following link. Be careful because we are thinking about the ‘ea’ sound as in the word cream.

-Can you say the grapheme ‘ea’ and can you write it down. 

-Think of some words that contain this sound e.g. dream. Can you include the words that you have thought of in a sentence?

-Go to the phonics play website and choose an interactive game to play, making sure you choose phase 5 games.

Maths:

-Listen to our counting to 100 song to remind yourself about all the numbers to 100.

-Ask someone in your house to shout out a number below 100 and see if you can give the number after this. Can you also give the number before this? Use your hundred square to help you if you need it. A hundred square can be found in resources if you did not get one from the previous week.

-Today we are thinking about partitioning numbers to 100, but what does this mean? We need to look at a number and be able to partition it into a tens number and a ones number e.g. 56 = 50 and 6 or 43 = 40 and 3.

-Complete the partitioning numbers worksheets found in the resources.

 

RE:

-Go outside and stand in a space. Close your eyes. Think about yourself in your space. What can you hear? Now open your eyes and look around you. What do you see? What do you see above you? 

-If you were standing in this space later tonight, what would you see above you? What are you standing on? Look at the people who share this space with you. You are a neighbour to each one. There is only one sun, one sky, one world. 

-Read Psalm 18:1-5 which can be found in the resources below. Do you understand what this is saying?

-Produce a sky at night collage and a sky during the day collage. You can use any resources that you have at home or you can paint your pictures, or you can draw them.
