What are we trying to do?
At Stella Maris, we aim to use our learning values of Independence, Interdependence, Challenge, Spirituality, Thinking and Creativity to ensure the children have a passion for English and are able to read, write, speak and listen to a high standard.
We want our pupils to have the phonics skills along with other strategies to develop a love for reading and writing for pleasure. Regular opportunities to provide a range of experiences are a priority for the whole school community so that the children are able to read and write with real purpose. Our creative curriculum will enable the children to be immersed in stories from a range of authors and across a variety of genres.
The children at our school are on a journey and it is our intent that they are ready for their next steps at secondary school with the skills needed to be confident, articulate, lifelong learners. When the children leave us, we want them to have special memories of their experiences and achievements at Stella Maris.
